„Truth is made when existing historical and institutional conditions inscribe themselves …”

Truth is made when existing historical and institutional conditions inscribe themselves in the order of bodies. The same can be said of that which is considered “true art” and is placed in public space. The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is a space for reflecting on and experimenting with these kinds of normative orders. Artistic practices test and pose questions that shed critical light on the truth and its conditions. Examples of this include queer feminist and postcolonial perspectives in art and research, which encompass a range of different media- and institution-critical approaches. Young thinkers create and test new areas of knowledge at the nexus of artistic and scholarly research. At the Academy, truth production and truth politics go part and parcel with one another.   Johan F. Hartle, Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien
