Facing Time – looking time in the eye with Rembrandt and Hoogstraten
Rembrandt and Hoogstraten were great painters from the Netherlands.
They lived in the 17th century, the golden age of painting.
They wanted to reproduce the visible world in a deceptively realistic way.
To achieve this, they experimented with colour, perspective and light.
Their paintings of people bring the feelings of the figures to life.
The portraits are studies of life and ageing – themes that we all have to face at some point.
Take a close look!
And don’t be fooled by the artistic tricks of the two painters!
