Körper Empfinden

EVENT LANGUAGE: GERMAN.

Sensuality and the controversially readable effects of colors, sounds, images and objects are taken up and staged in an exhibition curated by mutual loop (Martina Tritthart & Holger Lang) in a former “red light district” near Vienna’s Prater.

As part of a performance, Irina Georgieva will get very close, actually” under the skin,” of those visitors who agree to participate, by tattooing stylized copies of erotically readable art. Sibylle Gieselmann reflects on the impression and appeal of the muscular male body and the taboos associated with it. Audio-visual works by Martina Tritthart & Holger Lang create an ephemeral, stimulating space for experiences. In the tense and intense area between saleability and unsaleability, works are presented that are influenced by the surrounding urban environment, which they also incorporate in a playful way.

In particular, the urge and (almost) compulsion to commercialize one’s artistic dedication to works that are originally devoted to the expression of internal currents and needs are thematically taken up and discussed.

Even the word “studio” itself has been used in recent years to refer specifically to the working locations of people who provide physical services. Since such “studios” have also been set up near the gallery, the Sternstudio is occasionally confused with these establishments. The close relationship is stimulating, and the fantasy of accepting a social approach to art as a central element of human communication that does not have to be bought or sold is pursued as a “red thread”.
