Rembrandt van Rijn, one of the most important painters of the Dutch Golden Age, was a master at highlighting the theme of “FACING TIME” in his works. His portraits and self-portraits are profound studies of human life characterized by the passing of time.

Rembrandt’s ability to capture the traces of age, the emotions and the soul of his subjects lends his paintings a timeless quality. His self-portraits in particular, which he created over decades, impressively show how he viewed and reflected on himself and his art in the mirror of time.

Through his works, Rembrandt invites us to come to terms with the transience of life and the enduring power of art.

KUNSTHISTORISCHES MUSEUM WIEN

Built by Karl Hasenauer and Gottfried von Semper between 1871 and 1891, the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien ranks among the most renowned museums in the world. Its magnificent architecture provides a worthy setting for collections the Habsburgs built over centuries. These encompass objects from five millennia, i.e. from the time of Ancient Egypt to the end of the 18th century.
